Objective:To investigate whether SLC39A8 gene single nucleotide polymorphism?SNP?is a susceptibility SNP for schizophrenia in the Uygur Chinese population of XinJiang Province. Methods: We carried out a case-control study of 985 Uyghur patients with schizophrenia and 1218 non schizophrenia Uyghur controls. The SNP rs13107325 in the SLC39A8 gene is genotyped in all samples. Results: We found that rs13107325 was associated with schizophrenia(Pallele=0.018,Pgenotype=0.0004,odds ratio?OR?=1.310,95%CI=1.048-1.650).The genotype C/T?P=0.735,OR=0.958,95%CI=0.757-1.241?and genotype C/C?P=0.261,OR=0.981,95%CI=0.949-1.014?had no relationship on schizophrenia. The allele C?P=0.018,OR=0.760,95%CI=0.604-0.955?were negative associate with the onset of schizophrenia, however, the genotype T/T?P=0.0004,OR=4.28,95%CI=1.913-9.186?and allele T?P=0.018,OR=1.310,95%CI=1.044-1.594?were related to the onset of schizophrenia. Conclusion: Our findings support SLC39A8 gene being a risk gene for schizophrenia in the Uygur Chinese population.
