Objective: To investigate the diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)technology in the application of adolescent obesity.Methods: Collected 16 cases of overweight adolescent subjects(BMI: 31.69±3.93,age: 16.40±3.84)and 16 cases of normal weight adolescent subjects(BMI: 18.35±1.35,age: 16.70±2.41);All subjects underwent imaging with a3.0T dual gradient superconduction MR scanning(GE,Signa HDx,GE Medical Systems,American)with a 8 channel phased-array head coil.All subjects underwent conventional whole brain MRI scanning and DTI scanning respectively.A freehand oval region of interest(ROI)was respectively placed in the caudate nucleus,thalamus,anterior cingulate,anterior limb of the internal capsule,posterior limb of internal capsule,knee and splenium of corpus callosum,midbrain cerebral peduncle.Then the fractional anisotropy values of eight regions were measured.SPSS17.0 software was used for statistical analysis.A independent-Samples T Test was used to compare between the overweight group and control group of the eight areas of the FA values,BMI values and age.Results: In the overweight group,the FA values of caudate nucleus,thalamus,anterior cingulate,anterior limb of the internal capsule,posterior limb of internal capsule,knee of corpus callosum,splenium of corpus callosum,midbrain cerebral peduncle are 0.2271±0.0290,0.3370±0.0429,0.2405±0.0451,0.4272±0.0554,0.5619±0.1088,0.6644±0.1056,0.7434 ±0.0709,0.5552±0.0997;In the control group,the FA values of caudate nucleus,thalamus,anterior cingulate,anterior limb of the internal capsule,posterior limb of internal capsule,knee of corpus callosum and splenium of corpus callosum,midbrain cerebral peduncle are0.2264±0.0307,0.3312±0.0303,0.2908±0.0402,0.4986±0.0423,0.7079±0.0439,0.7967 ± 0.0668,0.8552 ± 0.0302,0.6905 ± 0.0882.Compared the two groups of FA values of anterior cingulate,anterior limb of the internal capsule,posterior limb of internal capsule,knee of corpus callosum,splenium of corpus callosum,midbrain cerebralpeduncle,the differences is statistically significant(P < 0.05);Compare the two groups FA values in the caudate nucleus and thalamus,there is no statistically significant differences(P > 0.05);there is significant differences between the BMI values of the two groups(P < 0.05);compared the age of two groups,there is no statistically significant differences(P > 0.05).Conclusion: DTI may be used to assess the structural integrity of the white matter fibers in overweight adolescents.
