Background: Stomach cancer and colon cancer are highly malignant and serious wasting disease in the digestive tract tumor, which hurt body and cause serious implications on psychology. Different degrees of anxiety, fear, depression, despair, such as bad feelings may appear in most patients and affect the treatment effect. Chemotherapy is an traumatic treatment process, often cause a variety of adverse effects such as anemia, granulocyte reduce, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or loss of hair, which affect the patient's quality of life, the psychological status and treatment confidence. There are drugs to relieve above symptoms during the chemotherapy process, however, the effect is not good. Music therapy is a method of multi-disciplinary overlapping borderline subject, adjust the psychological and physiological function through the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis and the nervous system , which obtain the good effect in clinical application. Objective: 1. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of music therapy to improve the symptoms, cardiovascular system in patients with cancer chemotherapy and assist in completing chemotherapy.2. To observe the effect of music therapy on chemotherapy rats in physical condition, behavior, the blood parameters (routine and biochemistry) and explore the effect of music therapy. Methods: 1. Patients (n=32) with cancer that could have been treated at least 4 cycles of chemotherapy were divided into 4 groups randomly. 8 patients in the first group received music therapy for 30 min twice one day during the first two cycles. The next two cycles, the patients received chemotherapy without music therapy. 8 patients in the second group received chemotherapy without music therapy during the first two cycles, received music therapy in the next two cycles. Patients in the third group received chemotherapy with music therapy during all 4 cycles. Patients in the fourth group received chemotherapy without music therapy during all 4 cycles. Heart rate and blood pressure were monitored after the music therapy. EORTCQLQ-C30 were recorded before discharge. The above data were compared within the group and the comparison between the groups.2. Wistar rats (n=30) litsen to music for a week and adapt to the human beings music audio. After the field experiment, rats with poor behavior or highly active behavior were weeded out. The rest (n=24) were divided into three groups: chemotherapy group, chemotherapy with music group and normal group. Chemotherapy group was treated with 5 - FU (100 mg/kg, half lethal dose) every two days. Chemotherapy with music group was treated similarly and exposed to music (65 -70 decibels, 6h/d) additionally. Normal group was treated with saline at the same dose, frequency and without music. All groups were treated for 21 days. Field experiment and blood test were performed on the day before treatment, 7th, 14th and 21th day. Results: 1. Self-matching test in the first group, fatigue, ache, nausea and SBP of patients undergoing chemotherapy were significantly reduced when they listened to music(P<0.05).Self-matching test in the second group, fatigue, ache, nausea and SBP of patients undergoing chemotherapy were significantly reduced when they listened to music(P<0.05).Fatigue, ache, nausea and SBP of patients have statistic significance among the four groups, significance differences of fatigue, ache, nausea and SBP of patients were observed between groups (P<0.05).2. The activity of rats in chemotherapy group decreased significantly, while no statistical difference was found between chemotherapy with music group and normal group; The activity in chemotherapy group was lower than chemotherapy with music group significantly (P < 0.05); Compared with normal group, the WBC of chemotherapy group and chemotherapy with music group decreased obviously (P < 0.05); Compared with chemotherapy group, the Hemoglobin, granulocyte, platelet amount and albumin of chemotherapy with music group were higher (P < 0.05), glutamic - oxalacetic transaminease and urea were lower (P < 0.05).Conclusion: 1. This study provides preliminary evidence that music therapy may be clinically useful for promoting the symptom and cardiovascular system in patients of cancer chemotherapy and completing chemotherapy.2. The side effect of chemotherapy on rats can be improved by music therapy. The physical condition, activity, hemoglobin, granulocyte, platelet and liver function can be improved by music therapy..
