Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of EDTA on the composite resin bond retention,to compare the effect of sclerotic dentin pretreatment between EDTA in clinical cases and conventional composite resin bonding repair method,so that it could provide certain basis for the clinical application of EDTA,as pretreatment agent. Methods:The experimental group composed of 16 patients that belong to a consistent criteria, each one had at least one pair of teeth with typical cervical wedge-shaped defects and class ? sclerotic dentin were selected. There were 32 affected teeth in total.Randomly divided into experimental group with the pretreatment of EDTA and control group, with each group having 16 affected teeth. All patients were obviously in healthy condition, and actively cooperated with treatment;had a good oral hygiene,no inflamed gingiva, fair occluding relation, and no closing interference, partial lateral chewing and Bruxism;their impacted teeth had no history of treatment,no spontaneous pain,no occluding pain;and tooth vitality was normal and no loosening of the teeth; In the experimental group,EDTA was first used on pretreated dentin surface and then self-etching resin adhesive; In the control group, only self-etching resin adhesive was used.Modified USPHS rating system was applied in baseline,6 months and 12 months after treatment.Next, the T sample test on the ranked date of two samples were conducted. Results: All impacted teeth are not sensitive before and after operation.6 months after composite resin filling, one of the control group affected tooth's conventional composite filling had completely fallen off,and there were five fillings failures. All of the experimental group were successful. After 12 months, there are 6 failed fillings inthe control group. All of experimental group is successful. In 6 months and 12 months of composite resin restoration, the therapeutic effect of the experimental group with the pretreatment of EDTA is significantly better than the control group. The therapeutic effect of two groups is significantly different(P<0.05).Conclusions: In the observation period of 6 months and 12 months, the composite resin bond retention of dentin pretreatment with EDTA is superior to that of control group.Dentin pretreatment with EDTA has positive roles on bond retention of composite resin.
