Objective:Similarly to C-reactive protein(CRP),serum amyloid A(SAA)is an impor tant inflammation marker.CRP is a useful biomarker in the diagnosis and risk stratification of acute pulmonary thromboembolism(PTE).However, the relation between SAA and acute PTE is still unclear. The aim of the present study wa s to investigate the relationship between SAA and acute PTE.Methods:In our retrospective study, the medical records of acute PTE patients(71 subjects)and healthy controls(27subjects)between April 2012 and July 2015 in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital were collected retrospectively. The plasma concentrations of SAA,CRP,D-dimer,and B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP)were determined.Left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and systolic pulmonary artery pressure(PASP)were evaluated by echocardiography. The plasma concentrations of SAA were compared between PTE patients and controls. Moreover, the relationship among SAA,CRP,D-dimer,BNP,LVEF and PASP was analyzed. Results:The SAA levels in the acute PTE group were significantly higher than those of the control group, and the augmented SAA levels were associated with the severity of pulmonary embolism. The concentrations of PASP were positively associated with that of SAA(r = 0.330,p<0.05),LVEF were negatively associated with SAA(r =-0.267,p<0.05).Conclusions:In conclusion,we revealed that SAA may be a promising biomarker for the diagnosis, risk stratification and prognosis of acute PTE.However,large-scale prospective investigations are necessary to confirm the clinical value of SAA in acute PTE,and we also need to expound the function of SAA in acute PTE.
