Objective: To evaluate the effect of complex glycyrrhizin on patch test reaction. Methods: 84 patients with positive(++)patch test reactions to nickel or formaldehyde were collected at the dermatology outpatient clinic. After the first patch test, the patients of middle dose group were given oral complex glycyrrhizin tablet 50 mg three times a day for 14 days and patch tests were repeated. The patients of high dose group were given oral complex glycyrrhizin tablet 70 mg three times a day for 14 days and patch tests were repeated. The patients of intravenous group were given oral complex glycyrrhizin injection 60 ml once daily for 7 days and patch tests were repeated. The results were statistically analyzed by Wilcoxon rank sum test using the software SPSS19.0.The statistic analysis was applied to qualitative analysis and reaction degree analysis of patch tests. Results: 81 patients completed in middle dose group. In second patch tests,66 ++ reactions and 13 + reactions and 2 +++ reactions were observed, and no patient was negative.Between the two patch tests,no difference was observed from qualitative analysis viewpoint, and statistical difference was observed from reaction degree analysis viewpoint in total results(Z=-2.84,P=0.005).82 patients completed in high dose group. In second patch tests,37 ++ reactions and 36 + reactions were observed, and 9 patients were negative.Statistically significant difference was observed from qualitative analysis viewpoint(Z=-3.000,P=0.003)and from reaction degree analysis viewpoint(Z=-6.247,P=0.000)in total results between the two patch tests.58 patients completed in intravenous group. In second patch tests,12 ++ reactions and 10 + reactions were observed, and 36 patients were negative.Statistically significant difference was observed from qualitative analysis viewpoint(Z=-6.000,P=0.000)and from reaction degree analysis viewpoint(Z=-6.289,P=0.000)in total results between the two patch tests. Conclusions: The patch test is hampered by complex glycyrrhizin significant of high dose and intravenous intervention.Complex glycyrrhizin should be stopped for 2 weeks before token patch test.
