Speech perception and production is a complex neural control mechanism.Exploring this mechanism not only benefit the understanding of the brain function, but also helps millions of people who suffer from various speech disorders. From the previous studies, people found that speech production related brain regions also participated in speech perception, for instance the Broca's area. Many researchers believe that is the result of mirror neuron.Mirror neuron has been found in the 1990 s by Rizzolatti from Italy,it is a neuron that fires both when an animal acts and when the animal observes the same action performed by another. For the brain of human beings, the Broca's area fires both when people speak and when people listen to the others, which means that this region acts like mirror neuron. With the quickly development of science and technology, the functional MRI method has been generally used in brain research.By this method, people have proved that the Broca's area has a mirror property indeed. However, because of the disadvantage of functional MRI from temporal precision, previous studies was not able to explain the mechanism of mirror neuron during speech perception. In this paper,we use EEG for data collecting, and conduct source reconstruction to obtain the fired regions during speech perception. To solve the low spatial precision of EEG,we use a EEG cap with 128 electrodes. For experimental material,we use the 2-character verbs in Chinese and non-words for comparison. The Principal Component Analysis and Independent Component Analysis methods have been used for signal pre-processing.From the result,we find the Broca's area fired during speech perception and this proved the existence of mirror neuron. At the same time,we find the fired regions moved through the dorsal route and we come up with a possible explanation of perception mechanism based on mirror neuron. And this experiment proves that it is possible to use EEG source reconstruction for this research.
