Purpose To acknowledge the awareness of patients and medical stuff on the knowledge about osteoporosis by a retrospective survey of patients with osteoporotic fractures from hospitals in Ning Xia to get a preliminary discussion on the cognition level of osteoporosis and fragility fractures, hoping to provide a basis for osteoporosis prevention and treatment strategies.Method By stratified cluster sampling method, we collected a selection of 1400 patients admitted in 7 comprehensive hospitals and 700 staff medical members of related departments in Ning Xia Hui autonomous region. We adopted the self-designed questionnaire survey to investigate cognition and management of osteoporosis.Result We totally recycled 1226 effective questionnaires on patients and 653 valid questionnaires on health care workers. 1. Findings of the osteoporotic fracture patients in hospitals with different grades at Ning Xia region :1) The awareness rate of definition of osteoporosis was 45.2%;the awareness rate of risk was 28.1%,;the awareness rate of therapy demand(with the exception of fundamental treatment) was 9.4% and rate of drug therapy(except the basic drugs) was 5.1%; 2) The awareness rate of follow-up way was 3.8%, rate to detect biochemical indicators was 1.1%,to detect vitamin D was 1.5%, and to detect bone transformation indicators was 0.4%.3)After treatment, the awareness rate of knowing the necessary follow-up of examining in index was 0.8%,the awareness of motor therapy was0.9%,dietary therapy was1.5%.2.Results of medical staff: 1) The awareness rate of definition of osteoporosis was 97.5%; the awareness rate of diagnostic method was 60.0%,;the awareness rate of the susceptible crowd was 36.4%;the awareness rate of knowing the need to detect biochemical indicators was 7.8%, knowing the need to examine vitamin D was 19.8% and the need to detect bone transformation indicators was 5.2%; 2) The awareness rate of medication types was 10.4%; The awareness of patients ‘follow-up time was 3.3%. 3)After treatment, witting rate of the necessary follow-up of examining in index was 7.8%,the awareness of the exercise prescription and t dietary prescription was both 0.6%.3. Levels of osteoporosis training in hospitals: The number of training on related knowledge about osteoporosis in primary hospitals is 0.04 times per year for each person, while the number was 0.22 in middle hospitals and 0.13 in top grade hospitals. Conclusion Knowledge about osteoporosis of osteoporotic fracture patients in Ning Xia region was obviously insufficient, and the medical workers also had a shortage of the knowledge.Meanwhile, their cognition on the management of the fracture patients was in a low level which should attract the attention of the doctor. Trainings for osteoporosis in hospitals with different degrees were almost absent. It is imperative to enhance health education and guidance to patients with osteoporosis, and the hospitals should strengthen the knowledge training on medical staff's perception and management of osteoporosis.
