Background:Although recent years, with the population concerning timely application of broad-spectrum antibiotics, improving tissue or cells' oxygen supply as well as protection of organ function, the mortality rate of sepsis has decreased, sepsis is still one of the major death causes, with the mortality rate remains 30%..Myocardial dysfunction is a common manifestation of sepsis and closely coincide with septic patients' prognosis.Although there have been lots of studies in this field, the pathophysiology of myocardial dysfunction is still not fully understood. One of the possible causes is the septic changes of myocardial mitochondria as mitochondria is a key apparatus which provides energy for cellular metabolism. Therefore, myocardial mitochondria plays a pivotal role in cardiac dysfunction. Objective:This review tries to summarize the domestic and foreign research progresses in the changes and interventions concerning structures and functions of myocardial mitochondria, mitophagy as well as apoptosis during sepsis. Conclusion:It is proved that changes do take place in the structures and functions of myocardial mitochondria, mitophagy as well as apoptosis during sepsis.Meanwhile, many experiments have afforded novel ideas and approaches to treat mitochondrial dysfunction during sepsis.
