Objective To detect the changes of carotid elasticity in patients with hypertensive nephropathy(HN) in different periods by Echo tracking(ET) technique. Methods 50 cases with isolated hypertension, 61 cases with hypertensive nephropathy(35 cases with normal renal function and 26 cases with abnormal renal function) and 50 normal subjects were recruited in the study. Carotid vascular intima-media thickness(IMT), elastic coefficient(Ep), hardening index(?), compliance(AC) and single pulse wave velocity(PWV?) and increase index(AI) were measured using two dimensional and ET technique. Results Ep, ?, PWV? and IMT of isolated hypertension group, hypertensive nephropathy group one and hypertensive nephropathy group two were higher than the normal group, while AC was lower than the normal group, and the difference had statistical significance(P<0.05). AI had no significant difference in all groups(P>0.05). Hypertensive nephropathy group one compared with isolated hypertension group had no significant difference. Ep, ?, PWV? of hypertensive nephropathy group two were highest than the other groups(P<0.05), while AC was lower than the other groups(P<0.05). Both IMT and AI had no significant difference in these groups(P>0.05).Conclusions To detect carotid artery elasticity using ET technique which plays a predictive value for the different stages of hypertensive nephropathy.
