| Objective: To evaluate the clinical effects of Jianpitongmai Decoction on treatingcarotid atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes..Method: 60 carotid atherosclerosis patients with type 2 diabeties conforming to diagnostic standards were randomly assigned totreatment group and control group(30 patients in each). Both groups were carried out with basic treatment for 12 weeks while patients in treatment group were added with Jianpitongmai Decoction. Besides, blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, blood fat and intima-media thickness(IMT) of left common carotid artery and blood flow of both groups before-and-after treatment were measured as the curative effect evaluation for syndrome of Chinese medicine. Other security indicators like blood routine examination, liver function and renal function of both groups before-and-after treatment were measured as well.Results: According to the statistics of comprehensive curative effects of two groups after treatment, the total effective rate was 83.7% in treatment group while 66.7% in control group, indicating that the clinical effect of treatment group was significantly superior to that of control group(P<0.05). The symptom integral of two groups after treatment both decreased with a significant difference in two groups(P < 0.05). Jianpitongmai Decoction improved blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, blood fat and IMT of left common carotid artery and blood flow of patients. Compared with control group, improvements shown by these indicators were better in treatment group(P<0.05). No significant changes were reported by security indicators.Conclusions: Jianpitongmai Decoction can improve blood glucose and blood lipid level of carotid atherosclerosis patients with type 2 diabetes.
