Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare job satisfaction among Chinese and Jordanian nurses in first affiliated hospital of Dalian medical university and Prince Hamzah Hospital.Methods:Cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2015 to June 2015 among Chinese and Jordanian nurses.A total of 162 nurses from each country participated.Mcloskey/Mueller Satisfaction Scale(MMSS)was utilized to measure job satisfaction among the nurses.Self-prepared sociodemographic sheet was used to record the sociodemographic variables of the participants.Data was analyzed using SPSS version 21.Results:The overall job satisfaction rate among the nurses in China was greater than the nurses in Jordan,6.2%,3.1%were very satisfied,42.6%,29%were moderately satisfied,42.6%,36.4%were responded neutrally,11.1%,24.1 were moderately dissatisfied and 0.6%,4.3%were very dissatisfied in China and Jordan respectively.3.70%of the nurses in China and 30.86%of the nurses in Jordan responded that they had a plan to leave their job.With respect to reason why nurses intended to leave their job between the two countries,60%of Chinese nurses had a plan to change nursing profession,20%wanted to go abroad,and 20%of Chinese nurses wanted change their profession because that they needed to take care of their children or other dependents(parents).While in Jordan 39.62%of nurses had the plan to change their profession,24.53%wanted to go abroad,and 22.64%had intention to continue education,5.66%of nurses had plan to move to another hospital,and only 1.89%wanted to leave because that they needed to take care of their children or other dependents(parents).There was significant difference in the item average score of Mueller Satisfaction Scale(MMSS)at age,material statues and education of nurses between the two countries,and the score of Jordanian female nurses whose age was between 30 to 45 was higher than Chinese female nurses,also the score of Jordanian female nurses who was ever married and whose education was associate's degree in nursing(ADN)was higher than Chinese female nurses(P<0.05).In Jordan,there was significant difference in the item average score of MMSS at gender,and the score of female nurses was higher than males nurses in Jordan(P<0.05),and there was no significant difference in the item average score of MMSS at other demographic characteristics of Jordan nurses.Conclusion:Chinese nurses had greater mean job satisfaction than Jordanian nurses.Hospital executives in Jordan were urged to look at the administrative features of their organizations to enhance the job satisfaction of nurses and to avoid scarcity of nurses.
