In recent years, breast cancer has become a disease that is threatening the world of women's lives and health. The cause of mortality in patients with all cancers, breast cancer has been the first place. Therefore, the treatment and the detection of breast cancer draw the attention of the whole world. All the countries in the world invest much energy and material resources in the treatment and detection of breast cancer. At last, the clinical medical research confirms that it will be very helpful to improve the survival rate of all the patients, if the tumor can be detected in the early stage of breast cancer. In this way, there are many means of detection to detect the tumor that buried in the breast. However, each of these detection means has its shortcome, which makes them have some disadvantages in detecting the breast cancer in the early stage. So Ultra-wide band microwave imaging method has many advantages, such as low-cost, there is no pain during the detection, has no radiation and so on. So this method has attracted extensive attention all over the world.Taking the background into consideration, this paper introduces ultra-wide band microwave imaging method, and mainly introduces the three types of the breast models that are used in the system of detecting the breast cancer in the early stage. The two-dimensional plane model, three-dimensional cubic model and the real two-dimensional model that was established by extracting the breast structure from the magnetic resonance image of the real breast are mainly introduced in this paper. The real two-dimensional model is the model that simulates the real breast. And in this paper, the theory of microwave imaging via space-time beamforming has been introduced, also the use of this theory in detecting the breast tumor that is buried in the two-dimensional plane model has been illustrated. Two methods of extracting the tumor signal by not using the tumor-free model have been introduced in this paper. One of the methods is to extract the calibration signal, then subtract the calibration signal from the signals detected from the three-dimensional cubic breast model. In this way, the tumor signal can be obtained. This method is based on the design of the antenna array. The other method is to extract the tumor signal directly from the signals detected from the real two-dimensional breast model. This method is base on the theory of ensemble empirical mode decomposition, which has been used to decompose the signals detected. At last, all the results that verify the feasibility of all the methods has been explained in this paper.
