Objective:Forkhead Box M1(FoxM1)is a member of the family of transcription factors fork frame super.Studies had confirmed that the FOXM1 plays an important role in cell development including maintaining steady state between cell proliferation and apoptosis. So the FOXM1 signal changes have relationship with tumor carcinogenesis.Recent studies showed that FoxM1 could combine with VEGF promoter to regulate the expression of VEGF in transcription level directly.Studies also found that in gastric cancer and other malignant tumor the expression of both FoxM1 and VEGF increased at the same time, and tumor occurrence and development had a certain relationship.However,FoxM1 and VEGF expression and correlation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)have rarely been reported. This research aims at the detection of FoxMl and VEGF expression in different stages of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and normal nasopharyngeal mucosa tissue,to explore the role of FoxM1 and VEGF in the occurrence and development of NPC and the relationship between the two.Methods:48 cases of NPC patients with complete data and follow-up data were enrolled in this study.Control group was the nasopharyngeal biopsy samples from 20 cases of non-tumor patients at the same period. The expressions of FoxM1 and VEGF in paraffin embedding tissue were detected by immunohistochemical method.Analysis was done to reveal the relationship of FoxMl and VEGF with clinical pathological parameters.Results:(1)The positive expression rates of FoxMl and VEGF in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue were 89.6%and 91.7%respectively and were higher than those in the control group(10%and 5%,P<0.01).(2)Positive expressions of FoxM1 and VEGF were correlated with T staging of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and clinical stage(P<0.05),and had nothing to do with age,sex(P>0.05).(3)The expressions of FoxM1 and VEGF in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue were positively correlated(P<0.05).Conclusion(s):The up regulation of FoxM1 and VEGF expression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissue is closely related to the local invasion and tumor distant metastasis. Both FoxM1 and VEGF play a synergetic action in the development of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma.FoxM1 and VEGF is expected to become the new biological indicator for the early diagnosis and prognosis of NPC and the choice of treatment.
