| Selenium is an essential trace element to our bodies, and it is associated with a variety of diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and autoimmune diseases, which includes autoimmune thyroid diseases. Nowadays,many studies shows that selenium can protect the thyroid and decrease the activity of the inflammation through anti-oxidation and regulating the immune system. But for selenium treatment efficacy and therapeutic doses, not all researches get the same conclusion. In this review, the main mechanisms of selenium in the treatment of autoimmune thyroid disease and its clinical applications are demonstrated. |
