Purpose: To explore the relationship between anxiety syndrome and relatedemotional disorders in Zhongjing's Treatise on Typhoid Fever and Miscellaneous Diseases,as well as fear as the main emotional cause for anxiety syndrome, and summarize theetiology and pathogenesis of anxiety syndrome in order to provide theoretical support forfuture prevention and treatment of anxiety syndrome, as well as methods and ideas fordiagnosis and treatment of anxiety syndrome.Methods: Use a combined method of literature study and clinical research.1.Literature study?Explore the relationship between anxiety syndrome and related emotionaldisorders in the Treatise on Typhoid Fever and Miscellaneous Diseases by combingthrough literatures of all ages and dynasties, as well as the pathogenesis of fearful emotionsas main cause for anxiety syndromes.2. Clinical study?Collect life events leading toanxiety syndromes of patients and their clinical data (mainly including general information,traditional Chinese Medicine symptoms and signs, and etc.) by means of questionnairesurvey on80outpatients of the Psychology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospitaland Zhonglu Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine betweenMarch2013to January2014. Analyze the etiological and pathogenetic characteristics ofanxiety syndromes based on clinical data and syndrome differentiation.Results?1.Theoretical study?Anxiety syndrome is a disease name used in Westernmedicine, which should be grouped with emotional disorders of traditional ChineseMedicine based on its clinical manifestation, and is closely related to Palpitation,Dysphoria and Insomnia, Lily Syndrome, Up-rushing Gas Syndrome and Hysteriadescribed in Treatise on Typhoid Fever and Miscellaneous Diseases with many similarities in their clinical manifestation, therefore, Zhongjing's emotional disorder theories haveguiding significance for their syndrome differentiation and treatment.Fear plays a veryimportant role among the emotional factors leading to anxiety syndromes, as fear is oftencaused by adverse irritation from outside, when coupled with viscera and blood deficiency,disorder or dysfunction, the internal and external causes will interact to result in somedisorder or syndrome. Fear-caused syndromes can easily affect the state of mind, harm theQi function and affect the viscera function?2. Clinical study?Among the80patients withanxiety syndrome under the clinical investigation, female patients had significantlyoutnumbered male patients with a men/woman ratio of1:2.2, and within age groupbetween18-65with an average age of45.18±14.353years. Most of them are retirees andindividual workers with literacy skills at high school level or above, who would often fallsick in the autumn.96.25%of the patients suffer from some sorts of a total of31lifeevents that may lead to the anxiety syndrome. During the traditional Chinese Medicinesymptoms survey, the following symptoms were ranked top20, including?fatigue of mind,restlessness, inattention, fatigue, worry, insomnia, tension, fear (dread), timidity,forgetfulness, weakened will, palpitation, dizziness, irritable temperament, lumbar debility,chest suppression, heavy limbs, shortness of breath, choke and headaches. Each of thesesymptoms has a higher than86.25%chance of occurrence. Syndrome differentiationmainly include24cases of heart and gallbladder Qi deficiency,22cases of heart andspleen deficiency,9cases of hepatic stagnation and spleen deficiency,6cases of liver Qistagnation,6cases of kidney essence deficiency,6cases of disharmony between heart andkidney,4cases of disharmony between liver and stomach,2cases of internal heat due toYin deficiency, and1case of stagnation of qi and blood stasis.Conclusion?Anxiety syndrome is closely related to Palpitation, Dysphoria andInsomnia, Lily Syndrome, Up-rushing Gas Syndrome and Hysteria?fear is the mainemotional cause for anxiety syndrome?pathogenesis of anxiety syndrome mainly includeill-maintained heart, liver and gallbladder Qi deficiency, spleen dysfunction andinsufficient kidney-essence. Pathogenesis characteristics are mainly characterized byprinciple deficiency with a mixture of deficiencies and excesses.
