Objective To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine onanesthesia and post-operation analgesia in children undergoingadeno-tonsillectomy.Methods58children aged from2to12years old, ASA rated as I orII level, scheduled to receive selective adeno-tonsillectomy were dividedinto three groups at random, group C?n=22??group D?1n=18?and groupD2?n=18?.General anesthesia was induced identically with midazolam0.05mg/kg, propofol2.5mg/kg, sulfentanyl1?g/kg and cisatracurium0.15mg/kg in all of the patients in the three groups. After endotrachealintubation, dexmedetomidine0.75?g/kg in10ml of normal saline wasadministered intravenously to the patients in group D1and D2, while10mlof normal saline only was given to the patients in group C as control atthe same time. During the operation, the same anesthesia program wasperformed on all of the children for maintenance. At the end of the surgery,post-operation analgesia measurements were given to all of the children by an one-time used mechanical bump, the drugs formula in group C andgroup D1are composed by2?g/kg of sulfentanyl,5mg/kg of tramadol,0.5mg of dexamethasone and2mg of ondansetron, which had beendiluted to100ml by normal saline. The drug formula in group D2was thesame as in group C except that the sulfentanyl was cut down to1?g/kg indose. Results During the operation, the heart rate and mean blood pressureshowed a mild but similar drop in three groups when compared with thatof pre-operation, but this was not happen when compared between groups.Furthermore, there was no significant difference on the self-respiratoryrecover time, endo-extubution time or the time to discharge from PICUbetween groups. Up till6hours after surgery, there were also nosignificant changes in respiratory rate, SpO2, pain and OAA/S scoresbetween the three groups. Conclusion Single dose of Dexmedetomidine intra-operatively usedoesn't induce significant circulation depression, nor result to recoverdelay during PICU, but can smoothing post operative pain.
