With the development of production and construction activities,a large number of slope stability problems have emerged. It is of great significance for the development of production and construction projects stabley and efficiently, and for the solving ofwater and soil erosion problem caused by artificial slope in the Loess Plateau area.In this paper, the slope soil of Zhuyu Town was taken as the research object, which located at Huolong Mountain area,Zhouzhi County,Xi'an City in Shaanxi Province(typical loess soil). On the basis of investigation and determination of the characteristics of undisturbed soil in the project area,we tasted the mechanical strength of remolded loess and the mechanical strength of root-soil composite at the different level of density and water content.Flac7.0 was used to to simulate and evaluate the stability of artificial slopes. The conclusions were taken as following:(1)There is a positive correlation between the soil dry density and the cohesive force in the study area, and the internal friction angle is not sensitive to the density change.Under the condition of low water content, the soil cohesive and shear strength of remolded soil samples are positively correlated their density. When the water content is high, the cohesive force of the remolded loess is basically not affected by the dry density.(2)The strength of herbaceous'root-soil composite is positively correlated with the number of roots and the mass of roots.(3)Under the action of gravity stress, the free face of the slope have an effect on the stress distribution to a certain extent. The principal stress of the slope body increases gradually from the surface to the deep layer. And the stress concentration appeared at the foot of the slope. The change of slope degree had no significant effect on the shear stress of the foot of the slope.Under the condition of single density, the height of slope decreased when the shear stress on the foot suddenly arise with the increasing of density. The sudden spurts height of the shear stress at the toe of mixed density slope is slightly larger than that of the density of 1.73g/cm~3.(4)The minimum dry density of artificial slopes is 1.66g/cm~3 during the summer and autumn rainy seasons in the project area. When the slope gradient is33°,the slope height should not exceed 4.2m,and the slope gradient should not exceed 36°when the slope height is 4.0m.(5)The condition of maximum stress at the foot of the mixed density slope is more natural and more stable than that of single density slope.Considering the maximum stress at the foot of slope and the slope stability coefficient, the parameters of the mixed slope with these three densities built in the project area can refer to the three parameters:(a)h<4.6m,??33°,(b)h?4m,and??45°.(c)h?4.5m and??38°.In the range of these three parameters, the slope can remain stable without additional engineering measures.
