Pests Investigation And Bio-control Technology On Two Aromatic Crops In Yili Region

Lavender and peppermint are grown as two major aromatic crops in Yili valley areas of Xinjiang.In recent years,the diseases and insect pests of lavender and peppermint have become more serious.In this paper,the investigation of lavender and peppermint diseases and insect pests in Yili area was done to find out the locality,species and occurrence of pests and diseases,and the control treatments of lavender and peppermint pests were carried out by using bio-control methods.The nvestigation showed that the lavender pests are mainly distributed in Yining County and Huocheng County,the peppermint pests are mainly distributed in Qapqal County.There are 2 kinds of diseases in lavender,both root rot of lavender and Cuscuta chinensis Lam;2kinds of pests,spider mites and froghopper.There are 3 kinds of diseases in the peppermint,rust disease,black stem disease and viral disease;2 kinds of pests,Endothenia ericetana and spider mites.The developmental periods,fecundity,population life table parameters,functional response and predation preference index of Tetranychus turkestani and Tetranychus truncatus were studied by using predatory mites to control leaf mites on lavender and peppermint,and the field control experiment was carried out.The results showed that,compared with conventional chemical control of mites in lavender and peppermint field,the biocontrol could effectively control the population growth of leaf mite eggs,adult mites,young mites.The strategy of applying Neoseiulus Californicus to control spider mites in Lavender and peppermint fields was performed.The key to the biological control of lavender and peppermint leaf mites is to release predatory mites by 1~2 times,acompanied by doing a comprehensive work of clearing the garden and killing the mite with chemical pesticides and to reduce the base of the initial population.This study has formulated the bio-control scheme to prevent the pests of major aromatic inYili,based on ecological protection and reduced the use of chemical pesticides and environmental pollution.The study has significant value to ensure the healthy and sustainable development of aromatic crops in Yili areas.
