The quality of wheat flour was affected by its starch content and composition, while the amylose content in wheat grain was controlled by Wx gene.In order to clarify the level of nitrogen and Wx gene effects on agronomic traits and starch biosynthesis of wheat, eight wheat Wx near isogenic lines with Ningmai 14 as the materials were studied. With different amounts of urea in the three-leaf period as a nitrogen treatment, theirs growth period agronomic traits, related starch synthase activity, soluble protein content and starch composition and content agronomic traits, were determined. The results showed that:1Effects of Nitrogen and Wx Genes on Growth PeriodThe effect of different genotype on the jointing period, heading date and flowering period of wheat was significant, however, the nitrogen level did not cause the wheat growth period to change significantly,so the effect of genotype and nitrogen level on the growth period was not significant.2Effects of Nitrogen and Wx Genes on Agronomic TraitsGenotype had a extremely significant effect on 1000-grain weight, tiller number per plant, panicle number per plant and yield,at the same time, and the difference of plant height was significant.Nitrogen level had a extremly significant effect on the panicle number per plant and yield, and the difference of tiller number per plant.3Effects of nitrogen and Wx genes on starch synthesisGenotype and grain filling time resulted in extremely significant differences in amylose, amylopectin and total starch contents in wheat. The combination of genotype and nitrogen level only caused a extremely significant difference in total starch content, and the amylopectin content was significantly difference.Three Wx gene have different starch synthesis ability, among them, the effect of Wx-B1 on amylose synthesis was the highest, which played an important role on the grain quality of wheat.4Effects of nitrogen and Wx genes on the related starch synthaseWx genotype had a great effect on the activity of related starch synthase. The nitrogen level has not significant effect on the activity of UGP,SBE,SSS,GBSS,but has significant effect on the activity of AGPase.5 Effects of Nitrogen and Wx Genes on Flag Leaf Chlorophyll and Sucrose SynthaseGenotype caused the content of chlorophyll a,chlorophyll b and total chlorophyll in flag leaf reached extremely significant difference, which were significantly different caused by nitrogen level. While the genotype induced an extremely significant difference in the sucrose synthase(SS)activity. In this study,we investigated the effects of nitrogen on different Wx genotypes of wheat, and discussed the interaction between the amount of fertilizer and the waxy wheat genotype, and provided the theoretical basis for the utilization of Wx gene and the effective utilization of nitrogen.
