The yield and quality characteristics is directly impacted by the flower development in rice,therefore,understanding of the rice floral development mechanism will be important.In this study,an abnormal palea and pistil-stamen(apps)rice mutant was obtained after 60Co?-ray treatment for an indica cultivar 9311.The floral structure,main agronomic traits and the genetic of apps mutant were studied.We mapped the apps gene and obtained the candidate gene.The main results were as follows:1 The research indicated that part of florets of apps mutant were abnormal.The mutant florets showed the normal lemma,small and crumpled palea.The number of stamen and pistil were varied.In some spikelet,there were no stamens,and some spikelet was more than one pistil.Compared with the wild type 9311,the panicle length,panicle exsertion,grain length,1000-grain weight and the seed setting of apps were significantly different.2 Genetic analysis indicated that the apps mutant was controlled by a single recessive gene.3 F2(Peiai 64sืthe mutant apps)population was developed for apps gene mapping.Based on the SSR marker technology,the apps gene was mapped between markers RM243 and RM490 on the short arm of chromosome 1,and the genetic distances were all 6.875 cM.Finally,the apps gene was fine mapped to a region of 15.3 kb between markers MM1445 and MM1450.4 Within the 15.3 kb region between SSR maker MM1445 and MM1450,there were 2 candidate genes.Based the functional analysis of the two predicted genes,LOC_Os01g12890 has been suggested as a candidate gene.Compared with the genomic sequence of the region between apps and 9311,we found G was substituted to T at the position of 1367 and A was deleted at the position of 1368 in the fourth exon.The frame shift mutation led to its premature translation termination,ultimately determine the LOC_Os01g12890 as the candidate gene.
