Soil and water conservation zoning is the basis of soil and water conservation planning research.As a kind of comprehensive geographical zoning that need to consider a variety of natural and social factors,it can specify the direction of soil and water conservation planning and the conservation measures layout.With the development of information technologies,"3S" technology(RS,GIS&GPS)has been widely used in soil and water conservation zoning programmes which can provide data,spatial analysis methods,data output and Web distribution media for zoning.WebGIS is an important development direction of GIS.It can be used to receive real-time data,management,analysis,editing and multi-dimensional visualization based on Web Server.With the characteristies of technically advanced,cross-platform compatible,efficient operation,low cost and easy to release and sharing,WebGIS has been developed into a hot new information technology in S&W Informatization.At present,the design and applications of WebGIS in soil and water conservation are focused on watershed information management,thematic database construction and S&W conservation monitoring platform,while less in S&W conservation zoning.In the context of data digitization,the study of such systems can help to use network resources flexiably,reduce the cost of zoning and conform to the trend of information.Based on "Xi'an Soil and Water Conservation Zoning",this thematic WebGIS was aim to complite the complicated spatial analysis during the projection.The target location is to assist researchers to achieve the majority of the analysis and zoning using RESTful network spatial analysis services,and to achieve decision-making and zoning results output.The system is divided into eight modules,which covers the loading,query,cross-platform data editing,digital terrain analysis,basic image processing and information retrieval,gully density and hydrological analysis,WebServer database and resource management,data visualization and custom layout output.The system physical implementation is the use of ArcGIS for JavaScript API version 3.16 and Dojo framework.Using JavaScript as the program language and ArcGIS for Server 10.3 version as server-side software,this WebGIS can call the server-side geographic analysis services.Part of the functional modules were constructed based on Arcpy Scripting tools,then be published as services.Using the system to assist zoning analysis and determination,Xi'an were divided into 8 soil and water conservation zoning districts,in addition to urban soil and water conservation was alone set up,which were consistent with the previous study.The system could run on varieties of browser platforms.The spatial analysis function mod ules were designed with scientific and fitting the users experiences.It could release resources based on the browser and server-side platforms,complete varieties of complex spatial analysies with high efficiency.The WebGIS could also assist in determining the zonal boundaries.It provided the analysis data and information management,sharing and publishing platform.The output results included thematic maps,table data and statistical charts,which could realize the functional design of the system and serve Xi`an soil and water conservation zoning.
