[Objective] In order to know the prevalence of bluetongue disease in Shanxi and provide evidence for prevention and control of this disease, we investigated the seroepidemiology of bluetongue disease in cattle and sheep in Shanxi.[Method] The competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (C-ELISA) was used to detect bluetongue virus antibody of 1090 cattle and sheep serum samples, which were collected from large-scaled farms in 11 cities of Shanxi in 2013 and 2015.[Results] The results showed that 47 of 334 serum samples are positive of bluetongue virus antibody and the average positive rate is 14.07% in 2013.90 of 749 serum samples are positive of bluetongue virus antibody and the average positive rate is 11.70% in 2015. The positive rate of sheep is higher than cattle, and southern Shanxi is higher than northern Shanxi. Statistical analysis showed that the distribution of bluetongue disease in Shanxi Province is significantly linear correlation to annual average temperature and mean annual precipitation, while it also has a certain link to the geographical location.[Conclusion] There are BTV infection in cattle and sheep in some areas of Shanxi Province, and the positive rate of BTV antibody in serum is regional difference. Latitude, annual average temperature and annual average rainfall play an important role in the distribution of the BTV of cattle and sheep in Shanxi province.
