| Quercus rubra, also known as American red oak or northern red oak, is native to eastern America and southeastern Canada, extensively grows in Africa, Americas, and Asia. Ifs a species of Quercus genus, Fagaceae family. It's a large deciduous tree, with beautiful shape, changeable color of autumn leaves, higher ornamental value, as well as stronger resistance; therefore Quercus rubra is widely used as specimen planting tree, street tree, and roadside tree in urban and rural landscape construction. It's necessary and significant to study the adaptability of introduced varieties in Shanxi,which is cold and dry in winter, windy in spring, hot in summer and rainfall concentrated. Considering the landscaping condition of Shanxi province, this subject takes Quercus rubra as research object, which was introduced by College of Forestry, Shanxi Agricultural University. Quercus rubra's growth condition and ornamental characteristics (in Taigu county, Jinzhong city, Shanxi province) are observed, in order to find out the law of Quercus rubra's growth and development in Shanxi. Natural overwintering, diseases and pests condition of Quercus rubra are observed, and discoloration of autumn leaves in climatic circumstance of Shanxi is analyzed. Then analyze its drought resistance based on water stress treatment experiment, and its cold resistance based on determination of physiological indexes under the condition of natural cooling and artificial cooling, in order to reach a conclusion of Quercus rubra's adaptability in Shanxi. This subject is of great significance for enriching landscaping colored-leaf tree species, as well as increasing diversity of landscaping plant in Shanxi, providing the oretical basis for the application, cultivation management and popularization of Quercus rubra in Shanxi. |
