China is the largest aquaculture producer in the world. However traditional aquaculture mode has caused great damage to the environment of coastal water. Recirculating aquaculture system, which features less water exchange, easy control, high efficiency, and environmental friendliness, has drawn great attention. This research first studied the characteristics of the coral aeration bio-filtration and the macro algae filtration to find out the key factors of water treatment. Then coral aeration+Caulerpa sertularioides series filtration system was established to culture Tridacna and examine its growth. The results showed that:1. From the research of the characteristics of the coral aeration bio-filteration, we found that in the formation of biofilm, outflow NH4-N was negatively correlated with dissolved oxygen:the removal rate of outflow NH4-N decreased with the increase of the latter. The inflow oxygen consumption was negatively correlated with dissolved oxygen and suspended particles, positively correlated with inflow oxygen consumption. The concentrations of the outflow and the inflow suspended particles were very significantly correlated.2. In macro algae filtration, the manner of water flow directly influenced the effectiveness of macro algae filtration. When the water changed its flowing direction, the treatment efficiency for PO4, NHU-N, NO3-N and NO2-N was better than when it changed no direction. Regarding the algae density, when the algae density was 25.67g/L, the treatment efficiency for phosphate (PO4), NH4-N, NO3-N and NO2-N was the largest. The overall filtration efficiency of Caulerpa sertularioides was better than Caulerpa lentillifera.3. Water velocity also influenced the filtration efficiency of aquaculture waste water. At the velocity rate of 25L/h, Caulerpa sertularioides had the best filtration efficiency for PO4, NH4-N, NO3-N and NO2-N. The overall filtration efficiency of Caulerpa sertularioides was better than Caulerpa lentillifera.4. When Tridacna was cultured in the coral aeration+Caulerpa sertularioides series filtration system, the relationships between the concentrations of PO4, NH4-N, NO2-N, and NO3-N, and time fit the logistic model of y=c1/(1+e-c2+c2x),R2>0.98.
