Watermelon is one of the most important fruits in the world. Its flesh is full of water and tastes sweet, which fulfils a useful function for human body. Watermelon is known as fruit king in summer. In China, the cultivation area and yield of watermelon is gradually increased, and annual production value is at least 15 billion. Following with the economic development and improvement of people’s living standards in urban and rural areas, the variety structure of watermelon has changed, and mini watermelon is popular in recent years. However, the variety of mini watermelon is few at present, and the yield is too low, which is adverse for mini watermelon to develop. Therefore, our academy bred a new mini watermelon variety, and studied the cultivation techniques. The results are as follows:1. The hybrids of ’Jingxin 1’ and ’Zaochunhongyu’ were by multigeneration slef-breeding, and the self-bred line J52 is female parent. ’Xiuli’ was by multigeneration slef-breeding, and the self-bred line X712 is male parent. ’Jinmi 2’ was gained by the hybrid of J52 and X712. ’Jinmi 2’ took part in small watermelon variety regional test and production test of Zhejiang province in 2011 to 2013. Now, ’Jinmi 2’ has been approved by Zhejiang crop variety Approval Committee, and validation code is Zhejiang trial melon 2014002.’Jinmi 2’is full of extension value for its precocity and high yield.2. The grafting effects of eight rootstocks were studied by using new watermelon variety’Jinmi 2’as cion. The results showed that’Yongzhen 5’had higher survival rate of grafting, faster plant growth, and improved fruit quality. The grafting could effectively avoid blight when continuous cropping, and conserve the sweet taste of’Jinmi 2’.3. To effectively avoid the cold injury to watermelon in plastic greenhouse during early spring caused by low temperature, and to control the temperature in plastic greenhouse, the temperature changes and watermelon seedling growth in microclimate environment of greenhouse or with small shed were analyzed. The results showed that greenhouse with four layers of plastic film could promote watermelon seeds germination and seedling growth. Simultaneously, lowest temperature forecast model of microclimate environment in greenhouse was established, and then using the weather forecast from meteorological observatory could at same time forecast the lowest temperature of microclimate environment in greenhouse.
