There are a large number of earthen sites in the northwest of China, and it is preserved because of the special climate in the region. However, these sites are endangered with the natural weathering. For an example, the Great Wall in Qinghai Datong Niangniang mountain, where there has heavy rainfall and humid climate. As a result, there is particularly serious secondary damage caused by water erosion and remains a prominent problem of biological diseases in the region.Under the effect of organic matter, rammed earth is perennially ravaged, losing the original building forms of architecture, which finally deteriorates into soil.Humus,a major component of organic matter, has complex structure, strong adsorption capacity and resistance to microbial decomposition, which is a stable part of soil. Therefore,it is very important for the reinforcement of the earthen sites that carry out the research of the interaction between the protective material-soil-humus,and its results have a far-reaching significance for the application of this sites and the solidification of humus soil.Based on the research of the soil process with humus of rammed earth and its solidification, this article carried out geological investigation of the Great Wall ruins of Niangniang mountain firstly. After the geological engineering information in this area was grasped,we investigated the present situation of the preservation of the sites in detail. There is a thick mountain forest in shady sites around the mountains and a serious humification in sites area, where the trend of humification enlarges constantly. Therefore,we carried out the typical soil samples in this area to make a series of physical and mechanical tests. At the same time,SH,independently developed by Lanzhou University, was mixed in the soil sample to consolidation.so as to get the mechanical properties, weathering resistance and microcosmic test results of reinforced humus soil by SH.Finally, according to the experimental results,we could explore the mechanism of the effect of SH-soil particles-humus.The following conclusions are obtained from the above experiments:1.Due to its special climate and geological environment, the earth sites of the the Great Wall of Niangniang mountain in Datong is destroyed in varying degrees, and partly even soil-conversion,Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the soil to restrain the further destruction of the sites.Via microscopic test of soil samples before and after reinforcement, the size, shape and adsorption capacity of the soil particles all have obvious changes. The improvement of the geological engineering properties of the soil is the concentrated expression of this change.2.The organic matter and its main component humus in the earth sites are affected by its special composition and molecular structure, thus affecting the structure and strength of the soil. However, after humus soil was strengthened by SH,the physical and mechanical properties and weathering performance of are improved. It could commendably satisfied the requirements of materials of the earth ruins protection.3.The interaction between the SH-soil particle-humus is complex.SH plays a good reinforcement role between soil particles and humus, resulting in soil particles change. The feasibility and scientificity of SH,as a reinforcing material with containing humus soil have been proved through a series of experiments.4.When SH is applied to consolidate the humus soil, the organic matter content of the soil and construction time should be considered comprehensively.the amount of SH and the curing time and way should be determined.Experimental results of SH reinforced humus soil provide the basis for SH application and research of the reinforcement local sites.Meanwhile,it has great significance for strengthening the research of polymer materials containing humus soil.
