With the continuous use of high-speed railways, passenger flow growth on the normal speed railway is becoming slower. There are some inherent problems in 25 T and 25 G used in normal speed railway, such as long time consuming and poor comfort. The organization group of the distributed power EMU is relatively fixed with low carrying capacity. Therefore, the 160km/h centralized power EMU has been developed in China. The EMU realizes the integrated operation, maintenance and two-way driving and effectively reduces the additional time for starting and stopping. The operation safety of 160km/h EMUs is mainly studied in this paper. The specific content of the work is as follows:1.The dynamic models of different traction modes and different reconnection modes of EMU are established. In order to compare the effects of different traction modes on dynamic performance, two SIMULINK/SIMPACK co-simulation models are established. One of them is the electromechanical coupling model considering the electrical characteristics of traction motors, another co-simulation model ignores electrical characteristics and only considers traction characteristics.2.Compare the difference of the two kinds of co-simulation models in the whole vehicle dynamic calculation during traction operation. The results show that,it is not necessary to consider the electrical characteristics of traction motors only when considering vehicle dynamic performance.A co-simulation model with traction characteristics is considered. There is little difference in the safety between the push-type operation of the EMU and the traction operation on the linear track, and the smoothness of the push-type operation of the EMU is slightly worse than that of the traction operation.3.The aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle under crosswind are studied, including nine grouping EMU and eighteen regrouping. The influence of different traction modes(pushtype and traction)on the safety of running under crosswind is analyzed. The results show that the wheel load reduction rate is easiest to exceed the standard when running under crosswind, and the safety operation speed of EMU is the smallest.During the traction operation, the EMU is more capable of resisting crosswind. The maximum permitted speed of traction operation is 195.9km/h under the speed of 30m/s,while in the same case the push pull is only 156.7km/h.From the point of view of the operation attitude, the head car(control car)body of the pushtype operation produces a larger side roll and cross shift relative to the traction running head(power car).4.The influence of different reconnection modes(power-control reconnection and control-power reconnection)on the operational safety of the EMU under crosswind is compared. The result shows that the ability to resist the crosswind is stronger using the controlpower reconnection. When the wind speed is 30m/s,the maximum allowable running speed of the control-power reconnection is 209.2km/h,and the maximum permitted running speed of the power-control reconnection is 168.6km/h.
