Time Projection Chamber?TPC?is a gaseous detector that can be used in particle and nuclear physics experiments.Its high position resolution and energy resolution make sure that it is a perfect detector for reconstructing the three-dimensional track and determining the energy loss of charged particles.In many large-scale international particle and nuclear physics experiment equipment,TPC is widely applied.The CEE?Cooler-Storage-Ring External-target Experiment?cooperation group plans to build a low-temperature high-density nuclear matter measurement spectrometer at Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou Cooling Storage Ring?HIRFL-CSR?,in order to realize the heavy ion collisions with the beam energy within 100-800 AMeV.It has a nearly full space measurement of the pieces of product,and can provide experimental data for studying compact star properties,nuclear clustering phenomenon,dynamics of heavy ion nuclear reactions,equation of state of isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter,exotic nuclei,nuclear matter phase transition and phase diagram,and other important scientific issues.We built a prototype of CEE-TPC and did some testing experiments to determine its fundamental performance,such as the energy resolution and position resolution.What's more,those experiments provide us some precious experience for further studies.This thesis includes three parts.The first part is the introduction of gaseous detector,the working principle of TPC,the history and development of TPC.The second part is the design and construction of prototype TPC target chamber,assembly and test of TPC sample drift chamber based on Gas Electron Multiplier detector,the VME electronics that applied in the experiment and introduction of the wiring,debugging and the construction of gas system.The third part is the experiment process and data analysis,the experiment using 32S beam,?particles,and the laser beam that can determine the various indicators of TPC.By analyzing those experiment data,we can distinguish the track of incident laser among all five directions,and determine the correlation between the energy loss and voltage applied on the GEM,the correlation between electric field intensity in drift field and electron drift velocity,the relationship between laser beam size and the capability of measuring energy loss.Through these we can get the prototype TPC's performance and parameters,such as the energy resolution and position resolution.By designing and testing prototype TPC,we got the various parameters,including the energy resolution and position resolution,conforming to the requirement of low-energy nuclear physics.At the same time,we obtain a lot of test parameters,valuable experiences and lessons for the further study and construction of CEE-TPC.
