This research aims to analyze the mountainous villages' morphology from the perspective of folk residence construction system based on variable villages in Liuzhou,Guangxi province. On the basis of previous research data of ancient villages, the local construction systems are divided into pure-wood pole-railing style and mixed style. Then analysis on dwelling houses and public houses in a village has been undertaken from structure system, enclosure system, roof system and partial method.Morphological analysis includes texture and framework from an external perspective and spatial morphology from an internal perspective.Texture and framework conclude texture continuity, road network, road intersection and morphology boundary. The internal morphology concludes node space represented by public node and road node and line space represented by street walls and street section. When it comes to various villages morphological analysis,Gaoxiu,Gaoyou represented pure-wood pole-railing style and Longheng,Jieban,Bianshan,Shanjiao,Baisha represented mixed style are chosen.Firstly, research on a single folk residence' morphology is delivered and secondly the internal node space and street space.A comparison is made after analysis above.Morphology of villages is proved to correlate to folk residence's construction system based on the research. From the perspective of external texture and framework, villages under pure-wood pole-railing style have sprawling network which means better accessibility and also free morphology boundary and growing ability from different side due to wood-frame structure. Moreover, the kind of village is able to conquer steep terrain. In a word, villages have bigger scale. As a comparison, villages under mixed style have simpler network, whose morphological boundary tends to be rectangle which means villages grows better at contour line direction.Besides, these villages cannot conquer the steep terrain which can give an explanation to the small scale of villages. From the perspective of internal morphology, villages under pure-wood pole-railing style use Chinese fir and the bottom aerial which leads to more transparent street walls and better reaction to terrain. As a comparison, villages under mixed style use brick, stone packed earth and wall-bearing structure which leads to denser street walls and inferior reaction to terrain. However, the sub-style of pole-railing also can react to terrain better. As a conclusion, folk residence construction systems make an impact on mountainous villages morphology.
