This paper studies the role of controllable series compensation device in the control of critical line power flow.Through the establishment of the circuit model for the transmission line with controllable series compensation device,the power equations are developed;and the power operating range,active power and reactive power curve are drawn by using analytical methods.Through further analysis,the effect of UPFC plus fixed series capacitor on the transmission power is analyzed.After economic analysis,the optimal investment scheme of UPFC plus series capacitor solution is given.Through the analysis of the key lines in Jiangsu Power Grid,the rationality of the UPFC plus series capacitor scheme is clarified and the validity of the solution procedure is verified.The application of large capacity 500 kV UPFC device in power network planning was studied.The site selection and application effects of the UPFC project in Mudu were mainly considered,the control of power flow,the improvement of reactive power support in south Jiangsu power grid,the improvement of power-angle characteristics,and the reducing of impact of DC blocking on capacity limiting were verified.This paper provides theoretical verification and technical support for large capacity 500 kV UPFC device accessing Jiangsu Power Grid.
