In the process when diesel engine is exhausting,to reduce the underwater exhaust noise of diesel engine and the exhaust's temperature, and improve the working conditions of diesel engines, usually,we install an exhaust cooling silencer at the exhaust pipe.In this paper,we mainly study the flow characteristics and the acoustic characteristics of this exhaust cooling silencer.According to the calculated results,we can give an optimization design and improvement suggestion to meet the diesel engine's requirement of silencing when the power increases. On the analysis of the muffler's flow characteristics, this paper uses the finite volume method in Fluent for the simulation of the exhaust cooling silencer's internal flow field.Depending on the simulation of temperature field, flow field and resistance loss,in this muffler,we can analyze the muffler internal flow condition.According to the calculated temperature,we can import it into LMS Virtual Lab,as the fluid property known, and calculate the transmission loss under this temperature distribution.According to the results of the exhaust cooling silencer's internal flow field and the sound field,it can be used as the reference for the improvement of the muffler. When the diesel engine power increases, the original muffler can't meet the standard,so it is necessary to optimize the muffler.Based on the simulation results above,we studied the improvement scheme of the exhaust cooling muffler, from the aspects of reducing the gas flow rate and temperature in the muffler, and summarized each plan. After the final improvement plan was determined,we will analyze the performance of the improved exhaust cooling muffler.
