Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, the rapid development of China’s automobile industry leads to the severe pollution of the environment and the increase of oil consumption,so the government and the public pay attention to the development of electric vehicles aims to energy conservation and emissions reduction. However, are electric vehicles can truly achieve energy conservation and emissions reduction? Life cycle assessment as a kind of effective environmental assessment tool, has been developing rapidly in the past few decades. But researches of life cycle assessment of electric vehicles mostly focused on the environmental impact, while ignoring the market reaction, such as the rebound effect produced by products’ price differences. Many scholars believe that using life cycle assessment method to assess the environmental impact of new technologies need to be combined with the rebound effect, which have a significant impact on environmental factors, and may even change the overall direction of the environmental impact.Integrated life cycle assessment with rebound effect can obtain more comprehensive results of environmental assessment. The article studies the environmental impact of the different types of electric vehicles(Pruis PHEV,Nissan Tiida,Nissan Leaf)based on consequential life cycle assessment.Considering rebound effect on the basis of price difference and according to the characteristics of rebound effect,it sets up direct and indirect environmental rebound effect model, and then assesses the emissions of GHG and SO2 through the whole life cycle of blade electric vehicle,plug-in hybrid electric vehicle and the traditional internal combustion engine vehicle. The results show that:1.Under the background of China’s current energy structure, environmental benefits of electric vehicles are not the best, mainly because most of the power supply are given priority to coal, and coal generation process will produce large amounts of pollutant emissions in China.2.Direct and indirect environmental rebound effects all have a significant impact in the results of life cycle environmental evaluation of electric vehicles.3.The influences of indirect environmental rebound effect are greater than that of direct rebound effect, which due to China’s consumption structure and environmental impact of different types of consumption. Therefore, considering the theory, this paper suggests scholars use life cycle assessment method to assess the environmental impact of electric vehicles, should pay attention to the market reaction and the differences between products’ price. In addition,it also suggests that our country’s energy structure need to be changed, and governments must assess the whole life cycle environmental impact of vehicles when formulating the technical route of the development of future cars.
