The indicator buoys which is usually used to against the submarine investigation can measure the geomagnetism azimuth and they can work for about half an hour in the complex environment of water surface.Compared with the other compass’ s complex construction,the orthogonal fluxgate compass is suitable to this environment.These compasses can’t recycle and the demand is huge because of their working environment.What we want to do in this paper is to develop a lower-cost orthogonal fluxgate sensor which is the main part of the orthogonal fluxgate compass,then assemble the sensor and the circuit gather to be a compass.Based on the operating principle and the parameter calculation,we design and manufacture the orthogonal fluxgate sensor.We choose the permalloy 1J86 as the interaction material,then we improve the traditional handicraft of the orthogonal fluxgate sensor so that we can use the silicone oil as the damp solid instead of the fluorocarbon oil.When we stimulate the magnetic core,the quadratic harmonics signal from the induction coil can be used to calculate the geomagnetism azimuth.After the accomplishment of the sensor,we design the detection circuit.The detection circuit is made of power module,drive signal module,analog processing module and digital processing module.We debug the circuit with the parameter of the orthogonal fluxgate sensor.We process the replication experiment both in the standard mode and the 10° incline mode.Three sensors are tested to calculate the geomagnetism azimuth range between 0°~360°.We will have an error analysis after all of this.This experiment proves that this orthogonal fluxgate sensor can calculate the geomagnetism azimuth,its measurement accuracy is ±3°,its cost is lower and they can be volume-produce because of its simple craftsmanship.This is an ideal model for the indicator buoy.
