A Design Study On The Sensory Compensation Of The Visual Impaired Group From The Emotional Point Of View

The robots’ dance performance on the Spring Festival Gala of the year 2016 has won people’s unanimous praise,which not only demonstrates the rapid development of the advanced science and technology in China but also predicts that the robots,like the common consumer products,will gradually enter a household in the near future.The futurist Alvin Toffler used to say that a high-tech society must be a high-emotion one.Although the well-developed science and technology has brought more convenience to the life of people,what people need more is a type of high-emotion product to help them overcome the indifferent and dull feelings that result from the technological development.The emotional design requires that not only the basic functions of a product but also the interactive and experiential design should be taken into considerations.However,most of the researches into the emotional-design products target at the general public users,focusing less on the visually impaired users as a vulnerable group.This thesis aims to study the sensory-compensation products from the emotional point of the visually impaired group.With the help of the theories such as the psychology,sociology,ethology and cognitive psychology,the author explores the overall characteristics of the visually impaired group through means of actual survey and data collection.What the main study touches on is listed as below:1.Research into the emotional-design and sensory-compensation is conducted soas to the figure out the physiological,psychological,behavioral and perceptual features as well as a variety of needs,and thus provide certain theoretical basis for the study of the sensory-compensation design.2.From the perspective of Norman’s emotional-design theory,this thesis analyzes the emotional needs of the visually impaired group at three levels-the instinctive level,the behavioral level and the reflective level and thus puts forward the multi-channel sensory design thought.3.After an analysis of the cognitive process of the visually impaired group on the base of the sensory-compensation theory,this thesis probes into the influence that the cognitive process has brought on the visual-compensation products and how these corresponding compensations satisfy their emotional needs.Combing the senses with the three levels of the emotional design,the author puts forward with the emotional design geared to the needs of the.4.visually impaired group.At last,the design method is applied in the practice and a type of auditory or tactile compensation tea set is designed to testify its rationality and necessity.
