With the rapid development of information technology, more and more devices also have the needs of network communications. In this context, more and more researches has been ploughed into the city’s growing vehicle for the study of VANETs(vehicle ad-hoc networks). Most of the traditional VANET methods rely on vehicles to meet and exchange data on the road. However,in real life, there are more than millions of cars in a medium-sized city, the complexity of topology formed by these cars will certainly beyond imagination. Not to mention mobility of these cars.Based on the analysis of more than one billion pieces of GPS records of private cars in Changsha,we summarize several characteristics of urban private cars.Based on these characteristics,we realized region division and connectivity study in Location-based Urban VANET,which we proposed earlier,to lay the foundation for the realization of inter-city and inter-vehicle communications. In the first part,we dealt with the GPS data, trying to find out the movement mode these private cars follow, which is the basis of building the location based urban VANET,with locations playing as data exchanging and routing centers. In the second part,we come up with a routes based location division measure.By absorbing the information of routes,we can bring into socialization relationship. In the third part,we introduced the location based routing measures of vehicles. With all these cars been settled in their own locations, they can form a rather fixed connection through travelling from one location to another. In the fourth part,we introduced two effective ways which can improve the performance of this network. One is taking bus lines into consideration, and the other is merging some inappropriate locations. In the last part,we devised three groups of experiments which were used to prove the performance of above measures.
