In recent years,with the swift and violent development of economy in our country,the construction industry is in the golden period of development.The application of new materials and new technology in the field of construction has also made unprecedented progress.As a new member of the building structure materials,stainless steel presently has gotten the favor of the architects and engineers,for its perfect appearance,good mechanical properties and strong corrosion resistance.However,since fire happens frequently,which resulted in a large number of casualties and property damage,the safety of structures under fire has been challenged seriously.The stainless steel structure shows good appearance without any fire-control measure,so its mechanics performance under fire becomes quite important.Currently,the research on the stainless steel member's fire resistance,especially the research on the influence of section factor on the stainless steel member's fire resistance,is rare.Based on this background,the numerical simulation of the stainless steel beam's fire resistance with three faces exposed to fire has been conducted,and the mechanics performance and failure mechanism of the beam has been showed.In addition,the design methods of rectangular section and H-section stainless steel beam's fire resistance have been proposed.Numerical analysis has been conducted on the experiments conducted by Xia Xinfeng,L.Gardner and N.R.Baddoo using finite element software ABAQUS.The temperature-time curves of specimen and deflection-time curves of specimen at mid-span were obtained,and the finite element model was compared against the experiments and verified the accuracy of the finite element models.Based on the simulation,the parametric analysis on the key factors that influence the section factor of the stainless steel beams with three faces exposed to fire has been conducted.The analysis results implied that:for the rectangular section stainless steel beams with three faces exposed to fire,the section thickness has a greater impact on the temperature development of the member than section height and section width;the height,width and thickness of the section have certain impacts on the fire resistance of stainless steel beams,among which the section thickness has a larger impact,as the critical temperature of the member increases as the section thickness gets larger;for the H-section stainless steel beams with three faces exposed to fire,the flange thickness has a greater impact on the temperature development of the member than section height,section width and the web thickness;section width and flange thickness have a larger impact on the fire resistance of stainless steel beams than section height and web thickness,as the critical temperature of the member increases as the section height and web thickness get larger.Finally,the existing fire resistance design methods of stainless steel beam are concluded.The bearing capacity calculation formula of the rectangular section and H-section stainless steel beams with three faces exposed to fire have been proposed.From the comparison of results in proposed formula of bearing capacity with the experimental results of Xia Xinfeng,L.Gardner and N.R.Baddoo,it shows that the formula own good precision and can be used in the bearing capacity calculation of stainless steel beams with three faces exposed to fire.
