Bilge keel is a kind of equipment that can reduce the roll motion of the ship and widely used in all kinds of ships.Recently,the failure of the bilge keel frequently occur and has attracted the attention of the ship building industry.Almost all of the failure cases happen to the single plate bilge keel.It was found that some of the current single plate bilge keels fail to meet the specification requirements and consequently ruptured.However,for those who successfully meet the standard requirements,fracture also tend to occur at the connection of the bilge keel and the front end of the hull.So it is necessary for the analytical investigation of the functional law and influence factors of bilge keel load,and rationalization proposals of bilge keel design are proposed on the basis of the researches in this paper.The main work of this paper are as follows:1)Simplify the bilge keel as plate,calculate the load of the bilge keel when the plate moves in the water,and compare the results with the specification requirements,analysis the applicable scope of the specification.2)The hydrodynamic load and the slamming load of bilge keels are simulated under forced rolling and heaving based on 2D models,then get the regression formula.3)The hydrodynamic load and the slamming load of bilge keels are simulated under forced rolling and heaving based on 3D hull models.Update the regression formula based on the 3D simulation results.4)Based on the relevant specifications,the local strength of bilge keel is checked and rationalization proposals of bilge keel design are then proposed on the basis of the researches in this paper.
