Design Strategies Research On ‘Corridor Space’ In The Garden Hotels

The Garden Hotels not only meet people’s basic corporeal needs,but also provide them places where they could return to nature and release their bodies and minds.As a kind of important traffic space in the Garden Hotels,the corridor space plays a very significant role.There are many Garden Hotels all over the country now,and there is a common phenomenon where lots of designers pay great attention to the major function-oriented space but ignore the corridor space.So the design works of the corridor space in the Garden Hotels are distinct disparity in the practical cases.This thesis conducted a survey on the design strategies of the corridor space in the Garden Hotels in Suzhou as sample source.Many aspects of the design strategies’ problems of the corridor space were fond.The findings are the problems of the layout,the function,the formation,the experiencing and so on.The purpose of the thesis is to explore the feasible design strategies of the corridor space in the garden hotels and to solve the problems above.The conclusion of the research has theoretical meanings and practical value.According to the results of the previous marketing research and design concept research,the thesis concluded three details of the design Strategies research on corridor space in the garden hotels involving “space organization”,“space disposing” and “space experiencing”.According to the literature research,the thesis concluded that the design strategies research on corridor space in the garden hotels could learn a lot from the Chinese Classical Gardens.The main research part of this thesis followed the design concepts.And this part had a research order: firstly concluding the design strategies of the corridor space in the Chinese Classical Gardens with the research on the typical Chinese Classical Gardens,secondly exploring the application method of the design strategies from the Chinese Classical Gardens and lastly arguing the application feasibility of the design strategies from the corridor space in the Chinese Classical Gardens to the corridor space in the garden hotels based on the typical cases of the garden hotels in Suzhou.The conclusions of the research are that the design strategies of the corridor space in the garden hotels should meet the following principles “The space design should be integral”,“The strategies should be adapted to the actual circumstances”,“The experience needs should be satisfied for people ” and need the following design methods “The spatial organization should be optimized to change the functional tendency”,“The space management should combine the architectural space with the garden environment”,“Activity conditions should be created to enhance the spatial experience”.After the conclusions drawn,the last part of this thesis verified the feasibility of the design methods of the corridor space in the Garden Hotels by applying them to a practical project which the author had participated in under the guidance of the tutor.The text analysis and the graphical analysis have proved that the design methods of the corridor space in the Garden Hotels above are practicable.
