Geotechnical material is discontinuous, which hasa large number of pores.Under the condition of unbalanced potential energy fluid will flow in the pores, which is known as seepage. The permeability coefficient,i.e.the hydraulic conductivity coefficient,is one of the most fundamental parameter characterizing the property of soil seepage. It is also an important topicin the engineering of mining, petroleum, foundation and underground tunnels.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concept ofpermeability and the methods to measure permeability coefficient in the laboratory.Several seepage tests of Kaolin and Guiping clay in different void ratio have been conducted. And several groups of experimental datum of seepage test, which are proposed in references are analyzed. Then the SWCCs of those soils have been measured. The experimental results are analyzed with the permeability datum. The main research conclusions consist of:1.Through multiple sets of penetration test, the research finds thatunder the double logarithmic coordinatethe penetration curvesare linear and curve slopesare equal.2.The test and analysis results verify the formula of permeability coefficient for clay proposed by V.PANE and SCHIFFMAN.It shows that the exponent in the formula is almost the same for different kind of non-swelling clay. The coefficient of the exponent formula is also shown in this paper.3.The relationship between the coefficient of permeability curve and the SWCC has been found. For one kind of non-swelling clay,in the coefficient of permeability curve the higher intercept it has,the lower residual water content it takes. This result provides a new train of thoughtfor the rapid determination of SWCC.
