Abstract/Summary:
With the expanding application scope of BIM technology, the requirements of realizing automatic compliance checking for BIM model in construction industry become more and more significant. The present way of human review for compliance checking is both time-consuming and error-prone and it is unable to meet the requirements of model checking. In this case,it is necessary to develop a model checking tool to support the process of compliance checking during whole construction life period. However, the limitation of BIM model’s data format(IFC)leads to conflict between BIM data model and information model in the environment of compliance checking, and the complexity and variability of regulation lead to a lot of time and cost for software’s development and maintenance. Therefore, compliance checking for BIM model needs to meet the system function requirements and reduce development time and cost as much as possible. On the basis of research about description method of building regulation knowledge,BIM model data and regulation rules, this paper combines semantic web technology with IFC framework to describe building regulation and model data, and expounds semantic method system supporting BIM model compliance checking. The methodology of this paper is based on three kinds of semantic environments to implement the regulation checking, which are semantic of target domain, semantic of regulation and semantic of data format respectively.Based on semantic framework, firstly the predefined marking semantic method is used to extract regulation text, and computer-readable SWRL rules are developed;secondly, conversion rule sets are established to realize semantic mapping between regulation semantic and data format semantic; Then model data is extracted from BIM model based on exporting IFC files and RevitAPI,and the IFCtoRDF converter is used to convert the IFC format file to RDF format;finally,JESS reasoning machine is used to execute SWRL rules and produce checking results. This paper uses the terms of the domestic architectural design regulation as an example to demonstrate the process of regulation development in the method system;and completes the process of extraction and conversion of model data and rule reasoning by establishing an instance of BIM model.Case validation shows that the proposed method system can accurately complete compliance checking on BIM model data.Case analysis shows that this semantic method can allow the regulation experts to undertake the work of regulation development without the aid of programmers,so that the extracted rules would be closer to regulation knowledge which can improve the accuracy of compliance checking. In addition, the presented semantic method utilizes ontology and semantic web technologies to improve compliance checking environment, and the modularity and flexibility of the system implementation can be improved so it’s convenient to expand and maintain compliance checking system and reduce the time and cost for system development. Finally, this paper gives summary and suggestions for future studies of compliance checking system.
