Waste tyres can be used as a reinforcing material in geotechnical engineering because of its excellent mechanical performance. This paper examines waste tyre pullout characteristics and consolidated drained triaxial compression tests characteristics embedded in compacted sands. The pullout performance is compared to that of uni-and bi-axial geogrids. The distribution of pullout resistance and relative displacement along the tyre strips are analysed. It is observed that the interlocking effect and pulling out resistance between the tyre strip and the sand is very strong, which is significantly higher than that of the geogrids. In the early stage of pullout, the pullout resistance is mainly provided by the front portion of the embedded tyre strips. In the late stage, the pullout resistance is mainly provided by the rear portion of tyre strips and it increases. The deformation of the entire tyre strips is obvious, and the frictional resistance between the tyre-sand interface increases as the normal stress increases.Tyre strips of different wear intensities have different levels of pullout resistance, but the mobilization patterns of the pullout resistance are generally similar;the pullout resistance distribution is more uniform in the later period and the form of distribution changes throughout the pullout process, showing elastic-plastic softening characteristics.Through the triaxial test, the use of waste tyres as a reinforcing material on the sand samples for a layer and two layers of laying and compared with the situation of soil.To analyze its strength and deformation characteristics. The law of the deviatoric stress, volumetric change with axial strian and the corresponding relationship was analyzed. The effect of dilatancy and particles crushing on the stress-strain curvewas presented. The results show that the tyres are reinforced as reinforcing materials, and the resistance to deformation of the reinforced soil samples is significantly improved compared with that of the soil. When the confining pressure is low,the samples of different reinforced layers have obvious shear, and the later strain softening is obviously, the greater the confining pressure, the more obvious the reinforcement effect. The effect of the number of layers on the sand is less affected by the smaller confining pressure. And through the Duncan-Zhang 8 model parameters, the analysis shows that the more the number of layers, the better the resistance to deformation, the greater the strength.Tire reinforcement significantly improves the mechanical properties of the soil itself.
