Highway expansion project has become an important subject,because many roads already can not adapt to the requirement of traffic growth with the development of social economy.Foundation treatment is one of the key engineering for the quality,cost and schedule of the project in highway expansion.Soft soil widely distributed in our country.And soft ground treatment has been a technical problem of road construction?Design work plays an important role in project scheme determination,project cost control,guidance for a engineering construction of road.Soft ground treatment of highway expansion as a system project involves a lot of problems.Thought in the design stage is to reduce differential settlement between new and old embankment and to determine corresponding treatment method according to the depth of soft ground,height of roadbed filling,division of road location,structure types and so on.The author combining with the design of a highway expansion project in Zhongshan city have made a systematic and theoretical study and computational analysis about design method of soft ground treatment in the highway expansion projects.First,the paper have studied the engineering properties of soft-soil and the common diseases of soft ground in the highway expansion projects.Secondly,it have summed up soft ground treatment methods,and compared their advantages and disadvantages.Then it have performed a example calculation according to the settlement standards of highway expansion project,which have been studied.Finally,it have proposed a design theory and process of soft ground treatment in the highway expansion projects,and have emphasised the dynamic design principles.
