Research of friction dampers has attracted widespread attention at home and abroad.Compared with other types of dampers,not only because of friction dampers' simple structure,strong energy dissipation capacity,showing good Cullen characteristics,little impact of load and frequency,but also easily obtained,low cost,easy installation and maintenance,has been widely used.However,the conventional friction dampers only working on the large earthquake and provideing comparatively large stiffness to middle-small earthquakes,which may increase seismic action and sometimes increase the structural seismic acceleration.To overcome the drawbacks,we studied the new friction damper's mechanical properties and vibration control.This paper mainly includes the following several aspects:(1)We designed and manufactured a new type of second-order friction damper so that the damper can work no matter on large earthquake and small earthquakeis,further more we introduced the damper's configuration and working principle.(2)We achived the damper's hysteresis curve in different torque,loading frequence and displacement amplitude under the experiment of sinusoidal load.Demonstrated the three factors influence on damper's characteristics such as energy dissipation for each cycle,equivalent secant stiffness and equivalent damping ratio.Theory model of the damper is set up,and the mechanical proproties of the damper are numerically simulated based on the abaqus platform.Compared the experiment results curve,we verified the correctness of the theoretical model.(3)In this paper,the finite element software of ABAQUS is adopted to calculate and analyze the elasto plastic time history analyzing computer program of the steel frame structure which added the new second-order friction dampers.Obtained changes in seismic response parameters including story drift,absolute displacement,accelerations,floor rate,etc.The results shows that the new friction damper can effectively inhibit the random seismic response of the structure and greatly improved the reliability of dynamic Properties.
