The rut is one of the most serious diseases of the asphalt pavement. The rutting reduces the service level of the road and seriously affects the traffic safety of the vehicle. In order to control the rut, the concept of the rut susceptibility depth of the asphalt pavement is put forward.Through the analysis of the mechanism of rutting, it is found that the existence of the rut susceptibility depth is related to the large stress field (positive stress field and shear stress field)and the high temperature field of the asphalt pavement. Using the combination effect of the two,the susceptibility depth is analyzed. The Based on the expressway under construction, the pressure sensor is embedded in the pavement structure, and the stress in the pavement structure is measured. Combined with the numerical calculation, the larger stress field of the asphalt pavement is analyzed. Based on the existing measured temperature data, analysis the asphalt pavement high temperature field. The finite element software was used to calculate the stress field of pavement at different load levels and at different temperatures. The shear stress field of asphalt pavement was analyzed. Based on the above results, determine the depth of the rut susceptibility depth.The results show that the normal stress in the asphalt pavement structure expands exponentially with the increase of the pavement depth, and the exponential function is σ(h)=p0 · e-h/b. Based on the measured field stress field, the range of the large stress field is determined, which is within 36cm below the road surface. The temperature field of the road is determined according to the measured temperature, and the main distribution is between 0 and 12cm. Using finite element software to calculate the stress field of pavement, the area of the maximum shear stress field is between 5~10cm. The larger stress in the structure of the road are analyzed by the combination of the large stress field and the high temperature field, which is within the range of 0~8cm. After the analysis of the maximum shear stress in the surface layer, the analysis of the rut susceptibility depth was analyzed, and the depth range was determined between 0~10cm. Proposed three kinds of technical solutions to prevent and control rut, that is, traffic control (within a specific time to limit the heavy vehicle traffic ) and the test temperature and load condition of the test are improved accordingly and complex anti-rutting technology.
