Rubber seal is widely used in aerospace field,and it is one of the key components to ensure the normal operation of related equipment.Failure of an unconspicuous seal may cause serious casualties and property loss.As a basis for failure analysis,contact characteristic is an important factor to evaluate sealing performance.So the systematic study of seal contact characteristics has important theoretical and practical value for design of high-performance sealing products.In this paper,macro and micro contact characteristics of an aviation seal profile are investigated by theoretical analysis,numerical simulation and experimental tests.Firstly,based on the current study at home and broad,a fractal contact model based on fractal theory is developed.Micro surface morphology of the sealing profile is obtained by OLYMPUS optical digital microscope,and its fractal characteristic is verified by the structural function method.The fractal parameters are obtained,and W-M function is used to characterize fractal surfaces.A fractal contact model is established by the single asperity contact model and the area distribution function,Secondly,a multi-scale contact model of the sealing profile is developed based on the finite element method.The influence of roughness parameters and fractal parameters on microscopic contact characteristics is investigated by the single asperity and the fractal surface model.The macro contact characteristics is investigated by the contact model of the typical sealing profile.Then,the contact characteristics of sealing profiles under complex environment are studied.The finite element model of sealing profile contacted is developed to study the influence of micro particles on the contact characteristics.The contact model considering aging of material is established for revealing the material aging effects on the contact,which lays a foundation for the life evaluation of seal.Finally,experiments on the seal contact characteristics are carried out.For this purpose,a new type of contact characteristic test platform is developed for sealing profiles.Then,the micro and macro contact characteristics of the seal profile are studied,and the correctness of the contact characteristics analysis is verified.A new method for calculating the real contact area is proposed by coupling the theory and finite element method,which provides a reference for the design and application of seals.
