To study the hydraulic characteristics,downstream crosion as well as other issute of side channel spillway of Changyimiao reservoir, physical model test was studied and the test parameter were used in numericral simulation of enginetering prntotypc;The flow pattern, water line, pressure, flow rate and downstream scour of the side channel spillway are analyzed.The results can provide reference for similar projects. The main concusion is follows:(1)Discharge of overflow meets the demand; The flow coefficient of weir flow has a tendency to increase slowly with the increase of weir head,changing between 0.385 and 0.499.(2) Wall-height of WES curved-sided weir?side channel?parabola section?linear slop section ogee section meet the design requirements.Clearance area of steep slop section does not meet the design requirements .Will height of jet bucket on the left does not meet the design requirements ,it need be higher.Minimum cavitaion numberof spillway channel appears on end of ogee setion,being 0.97?1.16.Maximum velocity of the section is 16.4 m/s,less than 30m/s.So construction unti need to control construction irregularity degree to eliminate cavitation damage and air entraining facilities are not needed.(3)Upstream slope of the scour holes in original scheme is steeper than 1/2.5.Energy dissipation requirement are not met and flow out of jet bucket scour the root of hill of opposite bank directly.Flow out of jet bucket scour the root of hill of opposite lank directly is avoid in 4 optheization designs.Transverse diffusion degree increases apparently in the second optimization design and the third optimization design,similarly,the forth optimization design ,than original scheme.(4)From the comparison of the flow pattern,water surface line, section velocity and pressure,the results of numerical simulation are in good agreenment with the results of model lest.This shows that the method used in this paper is suitable and can be used a means to study the hydraulic characteristics of spillway.
