In order to understand the development of the earth and the mysteries of the universe,it is needed to investigate and explore the solar system by deep space detection that includes sampling study which is an important part of extraterrestrial planets exploration.According to China's space exploration plan, developing novel extraterrestrial star surface sampling system is the urgent need for the development of deep space detection technology in the future. It is necessary for deep space detection to be equipped with specific geological hammer, which is similar to that the prospecting teams require three major field exploration tools, containing a geological hammer, compass and magnifying glass. On the background of the development of the star surface rock-sampling technique at home and abroad, this research is concerned with how to achieve the lightweight, low power consumption and high reliability of extraterrestrial star surface sampling mechanism. This research comes from the Science Foundation Programs on the active parallel vibration attenuation mechanism and control of space experimental facility(61128008).As a newly-rising study, bionics can help researchers use the near-perfect biological mechanism reasonably with new ideas and approaches for various technique difficulties solving in scientific studies.Biologically inspired, this research provides a spatial bionic pecking sampling system based on woodpeckers, including a new rock-sampling technique using the biological damping characteristic of woodpeckers, involved in mechanical&electronic engineering, mechanics, controlling, materials science and so on.This paper describes from the following several respects mainly.(1)Firstly,this research gives an overall review of the scientific inquiry literature home and abroad, and summarizes the present research situation and existing problems of extraterrestrial star surface rock-sampling technique, and then propose research ideas of combing bionics and sampling technique.(2)After studying the mechanism of woodpeckers' quick impact without concussion,a vibration control mechanical model accordingly is built.(3)Based on the biological characteristics of woodpeckers,a new type of sampling system is put forth to provide constant pounding, which is made up of the pecking mechanism that protects the head components based on the vibration attenuation mechanism of woodpeckers, and the moving mechanism driven by steering engine that can achieve flexible motion.(4)This paper makes conformational analysis and optimization of the pecking mechanism through establishing an element model of its key structures to analyze the stress field and vibration condition of the pounding process and designing optimal structure to get the best configuration.(5)Finally,simulation and trial operation are taken to analyse this system's motional and mechanical characteristics with Adams, manufacturing an experimental prototype and writing programs of its movement with Labview to validate its functional feasibility. The results of this research will provide enlightenment for the development of new extraterrestrial planet's surface rock-sampling system, which can solve the possible key technique problems in the sampling process and have good prospects.
