Railway transportation is the economic lifeline of a country in which coal,grain and some other granular cargo transportation are the most important components. It's the most important part of designing a new gondola car that analyzes the lateral pressure of granular cargo to the gondola car. As the increasing of the speed and load of railway transportation, the old force standard of granular cargo cannot satisfy with the designing of new-type gondola car.Further discussions for the distribution of granular cargo lateral pressure in gondola car which can provide reliable evidence for the improvement and design of new-type gondola car are in urgent need.In this paper, I mainly research the lateral pressure distribution of granular coal to the end and side wall of C80B stainless steel gondola car which plays an indispensable role during the transportation of Datong-Qinhuangdao Line. The specific research aspects are as follow:Firstly, introduce two kinds of numerical simulation method: discrete element method and finite element method theoretically and discuss the advantage and disadvantage of the two methods, and then present the simulation scheme which is adopted in this paper.Secondly, establish the mathematical model of static lateral pressure of granular cargo by using progressive layer by layer method and verify the correctness of the model by comparing test results. Calculate the slip surface of granular cargo, static lateral pressure distribution,resultant force of lateral pressure and its point, and analyze the influence of internal and external friction angle to the static lateral pressure.Thirdly,establish a reduced gondola car model and granular model on PFC3D platform.Analyze the lateral pressure of granular cargo to gondola car in the cases of static state and impulse load, respectively. Mainly analyze the variation of static lateral pressure, gondola car running stage and dynamic lateral pressure with different size of granular cargo.Finally, establish car body model of gondola car on ABAQUS platform. Simulate the impact of granular cargo to the head wall of gondola car that the granular cargo are described by using Porous elastic model + Drucker-Prager criterion (PE + DP).
