With the continuous development of network technology, a variety of distributed systems have been increasingly and widely used in the power, telecommunication and other fields. As the basis of distributed systems, time synchronization is also facing the situation of improving efficiency and accuracy. IEEE1588 Protocol is paid more and more attention in a perpetual state of evolution for its high stability and high accuracy. By using hardware-assisted, IEEE1588 Protocol can improve the accuracy of time in time synchronization without increasing the burden on the network. In this paper, a time synchronization system is designed to realize high accuracy time synchronization and to provide some references about time synchronization based on IEEE1588 Protocol.At the begining, the history and status quo of time synchronization is introduced in detail and by analyzing the pros and cons of various technology of time synchronization, the necessity of IEEE1588 is proposed. Secondly, from all aspects of the IEEE1588 Protocol,such as network architecture, synchronization model and synchronization principle,IEEE1588 Protocol synchronization algorithm is described theoretically. Besides, the engine module of the precise time synchronization protocol (IEEE 1588 Protocol) is designed, which realizes the best master clock algorithm, the local clock synchronization algorithm and PTP control module, in which PTP packets are sent and received based on SYS/BIOS system. What,s more, in the transmissing process of PTP packets the implementation of UDP Protocol is illustrated. The article details how to initialize and boot the SYS/BIOS board and load binary code, and software implementation process of the specific process is told, too.Finally, a simple test network is built to complete the state transition test and time synchronization test. The test performances are analyzed, which prove that the high precision and stability of IEEE1588 Protocol achieves the design purpose. Meanwhile, a further analysis and development of the prospects of IEEE 1588 Protocol lay a good foundation in the future.
